BTS (방탄소년단) have always incorporated their advocacies, culture, emotions, and experiences in their art. We have seen these in their songs, music videos, and especially in how they pour their thoughts into creating the theme for their merchandise as a group, and now as they venture into their solo projects. ARMYs have instinctively reciprocated by showing their craft inspired by BTS, from subtle hints of Bangtan love to paintings of members, and other fan art.

Upon hearing about the vision of APOP Collections for the BTS Pop-Up: Space of BTS in Metro Manila, I can say that the unique relationship and artistry of BTS and ARMY were truly reflected here. Through Apop Collections, local brands Rags2Riches and Randolf Clothing have collaborated with HYBE Corporation, sewing into their craft the heart and culture of Filo-ARMYs and BTS’ mark and identity.

If you visit Rags2Riches’  website, one word might capture your attention: “Intentional.” From when they started up to this day, Rags2Riches has been partnering with Filipino artisans, in pursuit of sustainability by transforming discarded fabrics into woven rugs, then bags, now expanding to clothes, home accessories, and almost everything in between. This reminded me of BTS’s talk on Climate Change at the United Nations on Sept. 20, 2021, when they brought to light the active participation of youth in caring for the environment. This advocacy of BTS, supported by ARMYs, has found an elegant, stylish platform in the R2R Philippine-exclusive bags. We are in awe of the craftsmanship, meticulous design, and sincerity that went behind the weaving of each bag and charm. This sincerity is felt even more, as the names of the artisans are handwritten on their tags.

As ARMYs, we always advocate something good. APOP Collections highlighted that purchasing R2R Philippine-exclusive bags is more than just a fashion choice; it’s a way to directly support the Filipino artisans who crafted these beautiful pieces. Seeing these made me truly appreciate the thoughts behind the design and the use of color—it is a representation of myself as a Filo-ARMY.

Another highlight of this pop-up is the barong customized exclusively by Randolf Clothing for BTS fans. Their design process is unique, akin to conceptualizing a tattoo. They draw inspiration from the songs their clients love, and embroider these ideas on the clothes of their choice. Inspired by each BTS member, they’ve designed unique icons representing each BTS member and carefully embroidered these elements on the barong. It’s amazing how they combine pop culture with the traditional barong, creating these beautiful pieces that ARMYs can wear with pride. This mix brings together Filipino craftsmanship and pop design, turning the classic barong into an artistic expression of identity. Each element tells a story, celebrating culture while making a bold fashion statement. For ARMYs, these creations are more than just pieces of clothing; they represent a connection to both our culture and our love for BTS.

BTS albums have their own wall at the Space of BTS pop-up

Dalmajung merch—and Jin—ready to bring home

Of course, it’s JK all year round

Space of BTS has that warm homey vibe, where you feel at home with BTS and ARMYs as you see the merch up close. Nostalgia  washes over you as you see the BTS  discography on the wall, their solo albums and merch, and  even the sold-out items on WeVerse. The space is ARMYs chance to explore a wide variety of collections, from the Artist Made Collection to Permission to Dance, McDonald’s exclusives, Monochrome, merchandise from BTS solo albums, and many more.

Even if you’re not planning to buy, it will still be worth visiting! My heart already felt full just with me being there with fellow ARMYs, listening to BTS songs, and watching their music videos. But it overflowed as I touched and admired the Artist Made Collections and other BTS merchandise I hadn’t seen before. Just a word of caution: If you really don’t want to spend, consider leaving your wallet at home—everything is just too tempting!

The location is easily accessible, too—simply enter the SM MOA entrance by Pizza Hut and head up to the third floor. You will find it in front of Sunnies Studios and beside UNIQLO. Even for someone who often gets lost, I had no trouble reaching the place. Queueing was a breeze, thanks to clear instructions that were thoroughly implemented. The staff were warm and welcoming, eager to answer questions and guide us as we entered the store. Inside, we were welcomed by BTS music videos playing, with the members’ songs creating a vibrant atmosphere.

You’ll find a wall of BTS discography, the BTS 2023 FESTA photo wall, customized elements by Randolf Clothing on the photo wall, and a freedom wall where you can write your message to ARMYs and BTS. You can also mark your visit by having your photo taken in the photo booth for P300.

If you haven’t checked out the place today, no worries! BTS Pop-Up: Space of BTS in Metro Manila will be here until December 31, 2024, and both BTS and local merchandise will be restocked, depending on the availability of the items.

What we need these days, Hobi and HOPE

As I left the Space of BTS in Metro Manila, I couldn’t help but reflect on the profound connection between BTS and ARMYs that this pop-up beautifully captures. It’s more than just a store; it’s a celebration of culture, artistry, and community. Every corner of the space echoes the love and creativity that BTS and their fans share, transforming the experience into something truly unforgettable. Walking through the collections, one felt a sense of belonging, surrounded by fellow ARMYs who share the same passion. Each piece of merchandise tells a story, a reminder of the journey we’ve taken together with BTS. The warmth and sincerity felt in every detail made it clear: This is a place where art and advocacy converge, inviting us to celebrate our shared identity as Filo-ARMYs. I can’t wait to return and immerse myself in this vibrant space once more, cherishing the memories and the hope that we will continue to create together as we wait for the next chapter in BTS’s journey.

Bangtan Hwaiting is a social media fan page created by Filipino ARMYs who were inspired to come together and celebrate BTS after watching Suga’s D-Day concert online streaming in 2023. The name of the page, Hwaiting, was inspired by the Korean word “화이팅” (hwaiting; fighting!), and the English word “waiting,” which represents the energy and support ARMYs are giving this community, as we eagerly await BTS’s comeback in 2025. Through BTS, Filo-ARMYs, who are part of Bangtan Hwaiting learned that fandom goes beyond music; it’s about the friendships and shared experiences they create along the way. From barely knowing the names of the group's members to playing an active role in a fan-driven initiative, Bangtan Hwaiting’s journey with BTS has been one of growth, connection, and love.
