Silverlenspresents To See A Landscape As It Is, a group exhibition curated by Nilo Ilarde featuring the works of Soler Santos, Mona Santos, Luis Antonio Santos, Isabel Santos, andCarina Santos. For the first time since 2014, the Santos family comes together in a an exhibit that will reveal an individually distinct yet intertwined vision.

Ten years after Gathered Narratives, the Santoses are returning to Silverlens for their only group exhibition since then, occupying the entire new site of Silverlens, with new works that encompass all their current practices, a catalogue of their individual progressions in the last decade.

To See A Landscape As It Is showcases Soler’s series of assemblages adorned with found materials, Mona’s paintings of floral arrangements, and two collaborative works that are a mixture of painting and photo transfers, a marriage of elements that shouldn’t work together but do. Luis Antonio presents screenprints on linen alongside a work in which he prints UV ink on plexiglass, depicting a house in a state of either construction or demolition. Carina’s terrain paintings are inspired by color field paintings of the abstract expressionists which are presented with a tablescape of landscapes in sculpture, textile, and printed matter. Isabel’s process is divided into two modes: the first rendered in large scale paintings, and the second takes the form of a mural and ink drawings encompassing the gallery’s front room.

Derived from decades of developing an art practice, traversing time and place, the result of this presentation is a survey of where each individual person is at in their working life.

These five artists all work separately, each involved in their lives beyond the one they share. Coalesce. (Words by Carina Santos)

Silverlens is at 2263 Don Chino Roces Ave. Ext., Makati.
