Cecile Licad

This September 28, 6pm, Cecile Licad will perform at the Pintô Art Museum and Arboretum in Antipolo, for a fundraising recital in support of the Joven R. Cuanang Arts and Sciences Scholarship Program.

The scholarship program supports medical students from St. Luke’s College of Medicine and University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, as well as six young art students from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts.

The piano recital features Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 14 (Moonlight) in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2; Schumann’s Carnaval, Op. 9; Liszt’s St. Francis of Paola Walking on the Waters; piano pieces by Scott Joplin; and Chopin’s Ballade No. 1 in G Minor.

Licad’s career continues to inspire generations. Described by The New Yorker as “a pianist’s pianist,” she is one of the Philippines’ most celebrated artists, internationally acclaimed for her brilliance and depth.

Licad made her debut as soloist at age of 7 and, by 12, was accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music, where she trained under Rudolf Serkin, Seymour Lipkin, and Mieczysław Horszowski. She later won the prestigious Leventritt Gold Medal, the first Filipina, joining the ranks of icons such as Van Cliburn and Gary Graffman.

She has been doing unforgettable performances worldwide—from her award-winning recording of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with André Previn and the London Philharmonic, to appearances with legendary conductors including Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, Seiji Ozawa, Eugene Ormandy, and Mstislav Rostropovich. Most recently, in December 2024, she received triple standing ovations at Carnegie Hall’s Kurt Weill Auditorium, a performance hailed by critics as both revelatory and profound.

Over the years, Licad has collaborated with some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony, London Philharmonic, and London Symphony Orchestra. She has also been honored with the Grand Prix du Disque, the Gawad CCP Para sa Sining, and the Pamana ng Pilipino Award.

The recital will be at Pintô Academy Auditorium, Pintô Art Museum and Arboretum, 1 Sierra Madre St., Grand Heights, Brgy. San Roque, Antipolo, Rizal, Sept. 28, 2025, 6pm.
