Or why a dinner invitation leads you straight to the kitchen

An invitation to dinner from Rene Puno and wife Ann is literally an invitation to Ann Puno’s Kitchen—it is that homey and sumptuous. Over the years, Ann Puno’s cooking has reached a growing clientele through her online site Ann Puno’s Kitchen that’s become known for varied specialties, from cochinillo to desserts.

A dinner at the Punos is a walk of anticipation to the dining room/kitchen, your plate at the ready to be loaded with specialties: salads that evoke rural freshness, rich favorites such as callos, kare kare, pasta favorites, and always, the crisp and mouth-watering cochinillo.

Ann started baking shortly after she and Rene, a lawyer and art collector who coincidentally became known as member of the New Minstrels, got married more than 30 years ago. Friends and social media followers began placing orders for her baked goodies and yummy dishes—whenever she was ready to whip them up in her kitchen.

This Christmas season, on the must-have list of her followers are, of course, the cochinillo, the chicken relleno based on her family’s old recipe, the callos she cooked from an artisanal Spanish recipe.

Filipino Christmas is the longest holiday celebration in the world. Arguably, Filipino Christmas is also the most delicious.
