MIA—Missing in (social) action

When the new rich is a no-show

The public rage against corruption and misuse of flood construction funds (billions) has a predictable effect that might not concern the masses, but is noticeable in the uppity social scene: socialites among the politicians and public work contractors have gone missing in action. In truth, politicians and some new rich have suddenly become invisible on the social scene.

In some recent socials (i.e. fashion shows), a few front-row seats had gone empty and had to be filled with non-front-row invitees to cover the gaps. Not only can they not be seen snapping up their designer bags and blings in luxury stores, the New Rich of dubious wealth must NOT be seen. Period.

Not seen—here or abroad. One curious matron even asked a friend on tour in Paris to please check out the Cos’ apartment in Avenue Montaigne (they reportedly have two). (Yes, Paris now has one added tourist attraction, believe it or not.)

For how long will this public shaming go? Interesting to watch. People have short memory. Today’s Missing List(er) could make it back to A-List(er) tomorrow.
