2024 trend to watch: Mobo’s festive Anne Curtis terno

In happy floral prints, it’s meant to be worn day to night

For London-based Filipino designer Lesley Mobo, a much-needed trip back to the UK after a busy 2023 was definitely in order, especially after he presented around 20 ternos in Paskong Ternocon held last December at SM Aura Premiere. His fun and festive designs of mostly floral prints caught the attention of netizens and celebrities alike. One of them was Anne Curtis.

Mobo got a message from Curtis in London around the first week of January, saying she wanted a custom-made terno dress. There was no such thing as holiday break for Mobo even in London; his atelier in the Philippines has kept busy with orders but it was able to squeeze in Anne Curtis’ now famous polka dot terno.

“It is partly inspired by the recent collection, but it was made and draped in a different way for Anne. So you get a feel of the recent collection but actually it’s new,” Mobo said.

The silhouette is close to the body and has a classic feel, which Mobo loves, but is somehow chic and modern. “It’s not too long like a traditional floor-length (dress), it’s ankle-length which makes it chic,” Mobo said.

The fabric is a black-and-white polka-dot georgette with light medium robin egg blue tulle. It has a tie-draped waist detail, with a slit on the right side.

In a previous interview, Mobo told TheDiarist.ph that this is part of his Tropical Terno series collection— the terno that is meant to be worn day and night. “They’re actually wearable pieces,” Mobo said.
