Korean Cultural Center holds ‘Spring in Joseon’—from scenic photos to performances

Korea Festival with a theme, Spring in Joseon, hosted by the Korean Embassy—Korean Cultural Center, in partnership with SM Lanang Premier, will be held April 29 and 30 at SM Lanang Premier Fountain Court in Davao City.

With a wide range of Korean food and drinks combined with traditional activities, the festival will take you back to the old Korea, as if straight out from an episode of Sageuk (Korean historical drama).

Spring in Joseon marks the beginning of present-day Korea, when Hangeul, the unique Korean characters, was made. From then on, everyone was able to express themselves freely and the Korean literature written in Hangeul also started, giving birth to the widely loved K-drama and K-pop.

Neolttwigi or Korean seesaw (Encyclopedia of Korean Culture)

What promises to be an eventful weekend takes you on a memorable journey to the rich culture of Korea. There will be many activity booths covering traditional Korean spring activities, featuring Beongseonhwa (kind of flower) Nail Dye, traditional Korean games, Neolttwigi (Korean seesaw), and many more.

Hwajeon

There will be scenic spots for good selfies, and  traditional Korean spring food like Hwajeon (flower pancake) and drinks.

Pungmulnori or percussion ensemble (Encyclopedia of Korean Culture)

A Korean traditional performance team will play and sing traditional Korean songs called Pungmulnori (percussion ensemble) and Pansori (solo musical storytelling). P-Pop star and breakthrough artist Mona Gonzales will perform.

The Davaoeños themselves will showcase their skills in this year’s Everyone’s KPOP: Davao on April 29,  its grand winner will perform again onstage on April 30 to cap the festival. This is the first K-Pop contest in the region hosted by KCC.

This celebration is the perfect opportunity not only to learn the roots of Korean culture but also to bond, learn and create unforgettable memories together.
