The author with Ben Chan (far left) & family in Suga concert
SINGAPORE—It was an amazing experience. Suga’s debut album D-Day is a testament to the range and breadth of his musicality. It reveals much more than the pop music we have grown accustomed to with BTS.
Rap is beyond my age of music comprehension. But listening to Suga’s tracks reveals his newfound “freedom” as solo artist— finally liberated from the confines of conformity and posed to explore and reveal his true self.
I particularly like the song Snooze, where he collaborated with the late Japanese composer, Ryuichi Sakamoto. They even showed a video of how Suga was first introduced to Sakamoto.
Ben (Chan, chairman and CEO of Suyen Corporation and the visionary behind Bench) enjoyed the show so much. In fact he was the one who was excited for everyone to see Suga especially that we were with his grand niece Yumi, who is a certified BTS fan.
