FERRAGAMO VANILLA
The corded texture of grosgrain duets perfectly with the high shine of the glossy naplak strap of this sleek ladies’ slide. Held by a golden plate, the Vara bow echoes the romantic feel of this contemporary slip-on with low curved heel.
Ferragamo unveils the Vara Installation at Greenbelt 4, Makati City, up to June 30, 2026.
A curated celebration of one of the house’s most iconic shoe designs, the installation honors the timeless elegance, craftsmanship, and femininity embodied by the Vara.
Designed in 1978, the Vara shoe has never ceased production. It was created by Fiamma Ferragamo, the eldest daughter of Wanda and Salvatore Ferragamo.
“When it came out,” Fiamma recalled in an interview, “there was the need for a style that was both casual and elegant. The designers worked on a shape that had already been tested for several seasons, known for its comfort with a low heel and rounded toe.”
The prototype was decorated with a small oval ornament and a grosgrain bow made on the spot from ribbon found in the atelier. It seemed like an interesting idea, and the shoe was handed to a pattern maker, with instructions to recreate the bow using the same leather as the upper. However, the message was misunderstood, and the bow remained in grosgrain—eventually becoming one of Ferragamo’s most iconic hallmark features.
The success of Vara lies in the elegant simplicity of its design. Vara was created for the modern woman balancing work, family, and social life. Its versatility made it beloved across generations and styles, from the office to elegant evenings.
