To say that Korean star Kim Soo Hyun’s fan meet and much-awaited reunion with Filipino fans was emotional may be an understatement. At the fan meet sponsored by Bench last Oct. 2 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, thousands of people lined up, excited to see their idol, star of such K-drama hits as Queen of Tears and Love From the Star, for the first time since the actor was last in Manila in 2022, and since his 16-month hiatus. “Bogo sipeoyo” (I miss you), Kim Soo Hyun said—and his tears, as well as those of fans bringing placards, bouquets, and other offerings, were a touching testament to the fan meet’s title: “Kim Soo Hyun—Our Forever with You.” “Not just a fan meeting, but a promise that lasts forever,” the event was subtitled. The Mandaluyong Children’s Choir also sang a fan-made song, and some lucky fans were called on stage to participate in games.

Kim Soo Hyun became a Bench endorser and Benchsetter as early as 2021, one of the brand’s most recognized international ambassadors. He represented the brand for about three years, and last held a packed fan meet at Araneta Coliseum, “One Extraordinary Day with Kim Soo Hyun.” His return includes a new campaign for Bench. “We’ve always admired his enduring appeal, authenticity, and confidence,” Bench maverick Ben Chan told the TheDiarist earlier this year, during a shoot in Seoul. Judging from the warm sentiments during the fan meet, Kim Soo Hyun is being welcomed back with open arms.
