Bench Fashion Week Summer 2024 will take place from March 8-10, 2024, at The Playground, located in The Bench Tower, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.

With summer comes the much-anticipated Bench Fashion Week (BFW) that draws inspiration from the energy and style of the season. BFW Summer 2024 will be about local craftsmanship, poignant narratives, intimate relationships, self-love, and self-discovery, imbued with elevated fashion ethos and sartorial sophistication. It will present the 2024 summer collections of Rhett Eala for Kashieca, Jo Ann Bitagcol, Gabbie Sarenas, nicolò, LE NGOK, and Joey Samson.

Kashieca by Rhett Eala

Rhett Eala’s fashion design DNA is creativity in every detail. He has presented iconic collections in a career spanning over three decades, much of it now classic.

The latest Kashieca by Rhett Eala collaboration yields chic womenswear in three sub-collections. White Summer  consists of white eyelet skirts, dresses, woven tops, and laced shorts; Knit Collection, chic knit tops; and Florals and Prints, floral-inspired tops, skirts, and skorts.

Jo Ann Bitagcol

Jo Ann Bitagcol’s journey in fashion is fueled by her fascination for design and photography. As a fashion model and muse, she brought a monastic, almost otherworldly persona, to fashion design, with an uncanny ability to use photography. Her photography has a rawness and striking simplicity—her platform for storytelling.

In May 2019, she began exploring a new medium of expression, imprinting her images onto silk satin scarves. Jo Ann launched her first collection during the Katutubo Pop-Up in the same year. Since then, her line of wearable art pieces has evolved and expanded — from her debut assemblage of vintage photographs in Baul to nostalgic floral prints of Alaala—a culmination of her journey as an artist. Jo Ann’s pieces continue to echo intimate musings and memories that evoke emotions.

The collection pays homage to Philippine heritage, culture, and identity. It is an exploration and study of the traditional Philippine dress, reimagined and reshaped through the artist’s contemporary lens.

Gabbie Sarenas

Gabbie Sarenas earned her Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design & Marketing Management from SoFA Design Institute. She then worked for fashion designer Hindy Weber. In 2014, she took a summer course at L’Ecolé de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, focusing on Moulage Débutants (Draping for Beginners) and Moulage Avancé (Draping Advanced Level).

Gabbie’s eponymous label champions Filipino creativity, weaving intricate designs that charm men and women. Her love for Filipino textiles and hand embroidery reflects a commitment to preserving heritage, all inspired by her love letter to the Philippines.

Gabbie’s romantic storytelling was acclaimed at Ternocon 2023 (Pura Escurdia Award), ArteFino Fair (Best in Fashion, 2018 & Metro Magazine Special Citation for Fashion & Style, 2019), Mega Magazine (NewPH Awardee, 2019), and international exposure at Vancouver Fashion Week Fall-Winter 2017.

Drawing from the private and tender moments of romantic relationships, Tanan is inspired by Gabbie Sarenas’ discerning clientele, who have shared treasured moments, paving the way for intricate wedding wardrobe meant to be treasured long after the wedding day. The collection delves into nostalgic fabrication, incorporating colors and stripes reminiscent of archival photos of women in ternos, as well as motifs from the film Hihintayin Kita sa Langit, directed by Carlos Siguion-Reyna.

Tanan embodies quiet sentimentality, inversatile garments and separates designed to be effortlessly paired with inherited pieces or everyday attire. Scarves, veils, and gathered skirts are crafted in the atelier’s signature style.

After obtaining a psychology degree, Nicolo Perez pursued a career in fashion design. Before launching his menswear brand nicolò, he had already joined design competitions. His ready-to-wear line is available online and in pop-up events.

The primary objective of nicolò is to create garments that make its wearers feel good. Drawing inspiration from a myriad of sources, the brand employs a meticulous design process to produce garments that are captivating and meticulously crafted.

Collection 3: Pick Me follows the universal theme of yearning for someone, for acceptance. It is a journey to self-discovery.

Drawing inspiration from flower arrangement, vintage floral botanicals, outdoor gear, and workwear, the collection visually expands the brand’s signature silhouettes and techniques.

LE NGOK is an immersive journey through the narratives, the highs or lows, of its designer, Carla Zhang. “Lè” embodies the quest for genuine happiness, pushing the creative boundaries of experimental design in fashion through storytelling via mixed media and a variety of innovative techniques.

Each LE NGOK piece offers a sensorial experience, empowering the wearer to express his personal style uniquely through statement pieces.

The collection, There’s Nothing Wrong, takes its cue from the designer’s bout with anxiety, a journey shared with many of this generation. It is a message of sympathy and solidarity with those facing mental health challenges, a reassurance that they are not alone.

It’s about embracing the highs, the lows, and everything in between, integrating opposing elements toward achieving wholeness.

Joey Samson

Joey Samson is hailed as a “garment surgeon” for his unparalleled mastery of garment construction and deconstruction. With expertise in both menswear and womenswear, he applies his tailoring skills with precision. His creations have landed in numerous publications and in exhibitions across Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan.

This collection carries Barroco (oddly shaped) garment patterns. It consists of a diverse range of menswear and womenswear pieces. Each design blends influences from the fashion zeitgeist of the past with contemporary elements, capturing the essence of the past and the present.

The collection features sketchy and bubbly type fonts in monochrome and bold color prints.
