LLADRÓ, Torero, 1950s, Porcelain

Gavel&Block, subsidiary of the country’s premier auction house Salcedo Auctions, was created to cater to a burgeoning contemporary audience of design-savvy individuals looking to start or enhance their personal collections. Its forthcoming “art+design” auction presents a unique opportunity to discover pieces that reflect their unique taste and style.

FEDERICO AGUILAR ALCUAZ, Untitled (Yellow Abstract), 1973, Watercolor on paper

The “art+design” auction goes online via the Salcedo Auctions website on Saturday, May 21, 2022. It will have a diverse collection of over 600 lots of art, furniture, and decor across a wide range of styles and periods. Over the years, Gavel&Block has gained a reputation for pieces that are always, as Salcedo managing director Victor Silvino notes, “above the ordinary.”

The May edition of “art+design” features the stylings of four of Manila’s most sought-after creative stalwarts.

Interior designer Jonathan Matti’s ability to blend art, decor, and furniture from various genres shapes an exciting contemporary Filipino aesthetic. The auction house pays homage to Matti’s singular style with a vignette featuring pieces chosen from an expansive and eclectic room list to convey Matti’s take on luxury.

Interior designers, sisters Ivy and Cynthia Almario, run their design studio, Atelier Almario. Their fine taste and decorating savvy will be showcased in a special space that reflects their imaginative take on the contemporary Filipino mood.

Curator, writer, and artist Stephanie Frondoso, who draws from extensive travel to shape her perspectives in art and design, creates a vignette in this auction that echoes Stephanie’s successful interdisciplinary practice.
