For four weeks until October 15, The Peninsula Manila has a campaign to raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. The iconic landmark fountain at the junction of Ayala and Makati Avenues has been lit pink, a beacon of hope. Other initiatives include a pink-theme afternoon tea and a Pink Staycation room package where a portion of the proceeds will go to breast cancer-related advocacies of the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc.
The Philippine Society of Medical Oncology reports that the Philippines has the highest breast cancer incidence rate in Asia and is among the top 10 countries in the world. One in every 13 Filipino women is vulnerable to breast cancer, according to statistics.
In this light, The Peninsula Manila has chosen to partner with the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc. It is a long-term partnership that has resulted in the expansion of Quezon City’s East Avenue Medical Center’s Breast Care Center Annex run by the foundation. Before the hotel’s involvement, the foundation’s volunteer team would assist 50 patients daily, most of whom were in need of chemotherapy treatment in a space that could barely accommodate 20 people. The facility had only two LaZ Boys and a few Monobloc chairs. With the assistance of The Peninsula Manila, the annex was expanded, the facilities improved, and a total of 20 new chemotherapy infusion chairs purchased, with the assistance of Estée Lauder Companies and Pink for Life.
