She looked ethereal in the blush pink gown. This was easily the highest-profile exposure for a Filipino designer in China, today’s prime target market of luxury and high-end fashion brands.
Zhang Ruonan is China’s darling star for such popular series as The First Frost (Netflix), where she plays a young conflicted woman with a traumatic past, alongside another trending actor, Bai Jing Ting, and the 2024 romcom My Boss, where she plays a naïve but zealous lawyer alongside heartthrob Chen Xingxu. She has developed a growing audience for her versatility, essaying roles from intense drama to hilarious comedy. She must be one of the most beautiful faces in C-drama—that pristine, youthful, innocent look.
Zhang Ruonan herself chose Bumgarner’s blush pink gown.

Bumgarner told how this happened: “We’ve been working for a good two years with a styling studio founded by Cream Mai who’s also a styling editor in Grazia China (magazine). We started working with them with Elaine Zhong, a famous actress and also a fashion girl admired by designers for her beauty and elegance. She has worn several of our dresses on the red carpet, and so we consider her as one of our muses. Earlier this month, the team requested the dress for Elaine, but she wasn’t able to attend the event. By pure chance, Zhang visited the studio, saw the dress hanging on the rack, tried it on—and in that moment, everything aligned. The dress found its wearer.”

And the dress became viral.

It was from Bumgarner’s recent couture collection. “It is one of the dresses that i consider special that it needed a perfect wearer, a perfect moment,” Bumgarner told TheDiarist.ph.
The blush pink long dress has a simple-cut neckline with a floral bow, but with an intricately done skirt. The ballgown silhouette is created by multiple layers of fabrics that produce a wave effect when the wearer moves. Ruonan’s red carpet entrance made heads turn. The dress is elegant and simple yet cut to perfection.

“I’m really glad how it turned out on Ruonan,” said Bumgarner.
Bumgarner has built a clientele of high-glam women who are socially visible. He’s built a name on the red carpet, his design noted for its drop-dead drama and elaborate craftsmanship. Bumgarner has become known for turning flamboyance into classic elegance.
