Real estate developer Federal Land Inc. is inviting architecture students, practitioners, and design enthusiasts to an educational virtual design forum on September 7 featuring Tange Associates chairman Paul Noritaka Tange, son of iconic Japanese architect Kenzo Tange.

Entitled Japanese Architecture: The Synergy of Culture and Design, his talk will focus on the significance of culture and environment in designing for the future, while challenging the boundaries of design. With more than 400 projects in over 35 countries, Tange brings a global perspective to this event, an inspiring opportunity for knowledge enhancement and creative enrichment.

Paul Noritaka Tange is the chairman and principal architect of the multi-awarded Japanese architectural firm, Tange Associates. Founded by his father, Kenzo Tange, a 1987 Pritzker Laureate, Tange Associates is known for combining traditional Japanese artistry with modern perspectives. Their notable projects include the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Yoyogi Gymnasium, and The Grand Midori in Makati and Ortigas.

Kenzo and Paul Tange designed venues for the Tokyo Olympics’ swimming and diving events—half a century apart. The former completed the Yoyogi National Stadium for the 1964 Olympics, while the latter designed the Tokyo Aquatics Centre for the 2020 games.

To be held Sept. 7, 2021, Japanese Architecture: The Synergy of Culture and Design will highlight Paul Tange’s thoughts on transforming the landscape of Asia and the world through design and architecture. He will also share his vision of incorporating Japanese culture and local sensibilities in global design, ultimately upholding the standards set by his father, and the creation of timeless structures fit for today’s lifestyle and beyond.

Architects Denise de Castro and Jason Buensalido will talk about the Philippine setting.

The event will also feature Filipino designers and architects who will give a local perspective on the discussion, and share insights on Philippine architecture and design. They are DEQA Design Collaborative principal architect Denise de Castro; Buensalido + Architects principal architect and chief design ambassador Jason Buensalido; and GF & Partners Architects managing partner, architect Annette Gaddi-Liganor.

“We are very privileged that Mr. Paul Tange accepted our invitation to give our local talents a glimpse of how their firm, Tange Associates, views the synergy of architecture and culture,” says Cherie Fernandez, project development group head of Federal Land, Inc. “We hope that this educational opportunity will further inspire Filipino practitioners and students as they explore, discover, and master their craft while applying global standards to local projects,”

Federal Land Inc. invites architecture professionals, students, and design enthusiasts to join the virtual forum. Register by signing up through this link: .
