Saying “Merry Xmas” is not “taking Christ away from Christmas.” The “X” stands for the Greek letter “chi”, which is the first letter for Christ. In fact, the chi-rho (Greek for CH-R) is an ancient symbol standing for Christ. The tradition of using X to stand for Christ began at least 1000 years ago by Catholic monks, and does not at all intend any disrespect.
(And the best way to keep “Christ” in Christmas is to keep the “Mass” in Christmas
Confess, go to Mass, and receive Him in a state of grace
)
