Over the course of his 54-year tenure at Fendi, Lagerfeld played a vital role in shaping the history of the Roman house, as well as becoming a beloved member of the Fendi family. Dedicated to illuminating his process and creative vision, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty will invite the public into Karl’s world and reveal the dualities within his work. The exhibition will be open to the public from May 5 to July 16, 2023. Major support is provided by Fendi.

’The bond between Karl Lagerfeld and Fendi is fashion’s longest love story,” said Silvia Venturini Fendi, its artistic director of accessories and menswear.

Hired in 1965 by the five Fendi sisters, Karl, over five decades, transformed the family’s house into a playground of creativity, powered by his extraordinary and boundless imagination. It is that same vision that is celebrated throughout the exhibition, which traces his stylistic vocabulary and explores the unique working methodology that inspired such freedom. Fendi now plays a role in telling that story.

Fendi artistic director of jewelry Delfina Delettrez Fendi wore a custom Fendi look, with a print inspired by the Spring/Summer 1988 collection by Karl Lagerfeld. The column shape of the gown was from a Couture Spring/Summer 2023 silhouette by Kim Jones. The Spring/Summer 1988 collection by Karl Lagerfeld featured print portrayals of Anna Piaggi, the silent movie star that Karl Lagerfeld sketched more than 250 times in the 1970s, and then used as inspiration  for the collection. The dress was made of embroidered chanakya, with all-over micro cuts embroidered on printed silk georgette.

Kate Moss wore a Fendi Couture/Spring Summer 2023 Bespoke look by Kim Jones, created exclusively for Kate Moss. This stunning pink lingerie column dress was realized in nervures of silk satin with lace manipulations, with MiCro ajours. The lace placed on the bust and side represented a floral motif with a soaring silhouette playing with transparencies for an extreme feminine allure. The detachable silk georgette long sleeves evoked a floating, ethereal sensation in movement.
