The power of camellia—or how I get my hair to behave

No need for professional blow-dry, I tried Japan's coveted haircare line—with double-repair benefit

After 17 years as a leading premium Japanese haircare brand and one of the most popular haircare brands worldwide today, Tsubaki (originally under the Shiseido Group) is now in the Philippines.

Tsubaki” is Japanese for camellia, a flower revered in Eastern cultures for centuries, for both its exquisite beauty and health benefits, and the haircare line lives up to  such significance.

The Okura Hotel Manila’s lobby lounge, with its contemporary Japanese aesthetic, became the perfect setting for the Tsubaki brand reveal. Majestic Matsu pines, like sculptures bathed in swaths of red and white light, created a striking backdrop for the lovely afternoon tea. The camellia was the predominant theme, from the crimson-hued Tsubaki activations, to the delightful and dainty mignardise.

Over savory and sweet nibbles with a creative twist, beauty addicts and stylish guests got acquainted with the well-loved Japanese haircare brand. The program, hosted by The Beauty Edit founder Nicole Limos-Morales and content creator Mica Pineda, unveiled the newly upgraded Tsubaki product lines now carried on local shelves. Powered by years of innovation and a unique Japanese craftsmanship anchored on its core ingredient, camellia oil extract, Tsubaki promises results with “zero wait.” Cold pressed and extracted from the seeds of the Camellia Japonica and rich in essential nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants, camellia oil nourishes, moisturizes, and strengthen your hair from deep within its roots.

Comprising a Premium Moist & Repair Range, Premium Volume & Repair Range and Premium Ex Intensive Repair Range, each Tsubaki product is anchored on the brand’s double-repair power. The formula has two key elements: a damage-sensor function that locates the most damaged areas of the hair to repair it from inside out, and Tsubaki’s signature “Golden Repair” ingredients. Camellia oil, royal jelly, and soy work together to supplement the hair’s major components—lipids and protein— resulting in a flawlessly smooth texture and glossy luster.

The first time I tried Tsubaki Premium Volume & Repair shampoo and conditioner, followed by a quick blow-dry at home, I was amazed that my hair emerged completely frizz-free, vibrant, and bouncy. It normally requires a professional blow-dry to get my hair to behave, so I was definitely impressed. Better yet, I tried Tsubaki’s star product, the Premium Ex Intensive Repair Mask, on my hair on the beach weeks later. Designed to rinse off immediately after applying, I instantly got the same super shiny, smooth, no-frizz results, even in the terribly humid weather.

I don’t know why it took me so long to discover Tsubaki, but I’m now hooked.

In the Philippines Tsubaki is available at Watson’s branches nationwide.
