Training for responsible, ethical use of AI

TERRAIN hopes to provide the DLS-CSB community with 'a clear map, a reliable compass, and shared pathways'

TERRAIN aims to equip educators, students, administrators, and associates with the knowledge and skills needed to gain solid footing in the sensible use of AI tools.

Driven by its vision to push teaching and mentoring into the future by leveraging the potential of empowerment technologies, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) has launched a program to champion responsible and ethical use of AI.

Dubbed TERRAIN (Transparent, Ethical, Responsible, and Resilient AI for Innovation and Inclusion), the initiative aims to equip educators, students, administrators, and associates with the knowledge and skills needed to obtain a firm foundation in the sensible use of AI tools.

“Artificial Intelligence represents uncharted territory for educational institutions worldwide, and Benilde is no exception,” explained Rogelio del Cano, Center of Educational Technology (CET) director and proponent of TERRAIN. “As this digital landscape continues to evolve, the community needs a clear map, a reliable compass, and shared pathways for using AI responsibly, ethically, and effectively.”

TERRAIN was designed to guide the community on the application of Benilde’s AI governance requirements, evaluation of AI outputs with sound human judgment, protection of privacy and intellectual property, documentation of AI assistance, and AI-supported workflow design with clear human review checkpoints.

“Transparency serves as our compass, ethics as our anchor, responsibility as our guide, and resilience as our foundation for sustainable innovation and inclusive growth,” del Cano stressed.

TERRAIN follows a training matrix with four major routes, which links specific topics to its target audience. Governance & Ethics establishes the foundational policies and ethical frameworks, covers AI literacy standards, and fosters risk awareness needed by the community. Core Applied builds hands-on competence with essential AI tools for teaching, learning, study, communication, and operations. Advanced Workflows supports deeper AI integration and solution-building for instructional and institutional needs. On-Demand Track covers ad-hoc sessions which keep the community responsive to emerging tools, topics, and institutional priorities.

Benilde will implement TERRAIN beginning academic year 2026 to 2027. For more information, email edtech@benilde.edu.ph.
