Winners of the 2022 Pinoy Kpop Star search in vocal and dance categories were presented in crowd-drawing performances last July 16, 2022, at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
Vocal category finalists Sandra Dela Cruz, Merry Mia Sinaguinan, Danimei Everett, Joy Locsin, and Stephanie Aseron had close competition. Joy Locsin won with her performance of Hyolyn’s So What, by a slim margin. She won P50,000 cash prize and will represent the Philippines in the 2022 Changwon Kpop World Festival.
Merry Mia Sinaguinan, who sang a cover of I.U’s My Sea, and Sandra Dela Cruz, who belted out a cover of Kim Sohyang’s Hello, won second and third place respectively, winning P30,000 and P20,000 cash prizes.
After the vocal category came a special performance by world-class P-Pop girl group KAIA, who surprised their fans with a special version of their hit BLAH BLAH. They also performed a cover of Le Sserafim’s Fearless, a nod to their humble start. Some KAIA members were contestants in previous years of Pinoy Kpop Star.
The dance category finalists Amiel Giann Surla, Project One, Alpha, and 7ØS performed powerful numbers to select Kpop songs. And while their performance was interrupted that day, Principium was able to send a recording of their performance to the judges for scoring.
Alpha won with their cover of N.MIXX’ O.O, claiming the P50,000 cash prize. They were followed by Principium, second place with the P30,000 cash prize, with their cover of Seventeen’s HOT. Third placer Project One won P20,000 cash prize doing Treasure’s Jikjin. Alpha and Principium will represent the Philippines in the 2022 Changwon Kpop World Festival in Korea.
Winners and participants will be awarded and honored on July 29 in a special awarding ceremony at the Korean Embassy.
Hosted by Kring Kim, 2022 Pinoy Kpop Star was attended by more than 1,000 guests, 200 of them pre-registered. Many guests were not able to enter the Music Hall and watched the event from the sidelines and from the booth upstairs. The audience themselves were able to show their talents in a Random Play Dance before the event.
While guests are left wanting for more, more is what KCC will give as 2022 Pinoy Kpop Star and the crowning of the next ICON is not the end. The year is still jam-packed with exciting events from KCC which will surely leave guests and KCC friends craving for more.
