The Proscenium Theater is finally set to open in September, with a musical that has been keeping Manila audience in suspense. Right in the heart of Rockwell Center in Makati, where vibrant city life blends with the calm of elegant living, the Proscenium Theater is set to be an architecture landmark against the Makati skyline, and is anticipated to redefine Metro Manila’s culture landscape and even its very night life.

Designed by international architect Carlos Ott, it is a 778-seat theater for the performing arts, with a black box that allows for versatility of activities. The Proscenium Theater completes the distinctive Rockwell lifestyle that goes beyond the residential, retail, and dining experience.

Rockwell now will be a theater with a community, and a community with a theater.

The term proscenium refers to the traditional frame that separates the audience from the performance, the proscenium arch. The Proscenium Theater itself is a study in graceful curves reflective of a bold vision. Architect Ott sought to create a structure that both integrated with and distinguished itself from its surroundings. “The performance hall had, on one hand, to be integrated visually with the overall design, while at the same time be easily identified as a different form with its own personality,” he explained in a concept statement.

The result is a building that is both monumental and intimate, a testament to the power of thoughtful design.

Subtle hints about its opening later this year will be dropped, along with a video clip giving a peek at the very first musical to be staged this September.
