I didn’t hesitate to make the journey to Quezon City from the south twice in one week just to savor, what to me and many others, is the best Thai cuisine in the city—at Some Thai in Tomas Morato St.
Its Hamachi in Nam Jin Sauce is a perfect balance to the tangy, salty, and sweet nam jin sauce drizzled over the freshest hamachi, topped with salmon roe.
Its Som Tam Papaya salad is a refreshing and vibrant starter, with a tangy, spicy, and savory dressing with hints of lime, chili, and fish sauce.
The crab omelette fried rice boasts generous chunks of crab meat, making each bite flavorful and satisfying. It’s also good with the nam jin sauce.
Pork Krapao features stir-fried pork combined with Thai basil, garlic, chili, and savory seasonings, offering a bold and crunchy delight with the crispy pork.
The Pad Thai has a perfect blend of tamarind and fish sauce and palm sugar, yet it’s not overly sweet.
The crab curry, with huge crab meat, is a rich and indulgent delight.
The Tom Yum soup is the best I’ve had (even compared to the ones I’ve tried in Bangkok!) —it’s the highlight of the meal. Perfectly sour and spicy, and everything you could wish for in a Tom Yum soup.
The mango sticky rice perfectly balances the sweetness of mango with just the right texture of sticky rice, “maligat” in Filipino.
I recommend visiting during off-hours to avoid the lunch and dinner rush. Be prepared for a wait—it’s definitely worth it.
Some Thai is at 195 Tomas Morato corner Sct. Fuentebella St., Quezon City.
