In Salcedo Auctions’ Well-Appointed Life sale held September 17, 2022, National Artist Vicente Manansala’s Vendors (oil on canvas, 1978) went for P17,240,000, exceeding its pre-sale estimate of P12-14 million. Ronald Ventura’s goth piece from 2021, Beasty Eyes, went for the same amount.

This continues Salcedo Auctions’ world-setting record across categories and artists. Ramon Orlina’s two glass sculptures from the Tower Club Collection fetched an impressively high P7,592,000 each. Abstractionist Romulo Olazo’s 48 x 48 inch Diaphanous 71719 went for P11,680,000, and his 42 x 84 inch Diaphanous B-CXIVIII, for P14,016,000, setting world records for size and price.

Other significant sales included Mauro Malang Santos’ Yellow Vendor at P11,096,000; two 1957 early works from Ang Kiukok’s Bananas series (from the Rufus Phillips collection), selling at a combined total of P9,110,400; and BenCab’s 12 x 11 1/2 inch 1969 Mother and Child for P3,270,400.

An Impy Pilapil sculpture was also the highest in an auction at P934,400, from a pre-sale estimate of Php380,000.
