Passions and Obsessions

PH-Korea live performances return to Aliw Theater September 30

Food, songs, dances cap Culture Exchange Festival

It’s a melting pot of two cultures at Aliw Theater this September 30 as the United Korean Community Association (UKCA), the Korean Embassy, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) hold the 31st Philippines-Korea Cultural Exchange Festival!

The festival is back onstage after two years, after it was limited to online celebrations due to the pandemic. Audiences can experience the best of Korean and Filipino cultures and the collaborations in different booths and performances. They can try out authentic Korean food, beauty and other aspects of Korean lifestyle.

Korean performance group Jinmyung will create the rhythm and sound of Samulnori, the traditional Korean percussion quartet, while Filipino musicians led by Celso Espejo will play the rondalla, a traditional Filipino instrument. P-Pop girl group KAIA and Filipino singer MONA will perform their hit songs. The 2021 Philippines-Korea Cultural Exchange Festival winner will also perform onstage for the first time since winning the title.

Nine finalists, Filipinos and Koreans, will perform. Venisse Sy, Sandra Faith Dela Cruz, Cecilia Bang, and Choi Jeong will do their chosen songs to vie for winner in the vocal category. TEENAGE, Klio PH, Principium, Bamboo Bamboo and Elyashib Demo Team will compete in the dance category.

On September 30 at Aliw Theater, gates open at 1 p.m. Performances start 6 p.m.
