Pinoy K-Pop highlights July celebration

Korean Cultural Center marks 10th year in PH
with prizes for best dance performers

To mark Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino on the last week of July, the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines pays tribute to classical Korean music and the globally-renowned K-Pop. Mixing traditional and modern music, July events have something for K-Pop lovers and classical Korean music enthusiasts.

The 2021 Pinoy K-Pop Star Transcend,  the annual Philippine final leg of the K-POP World Festival in Changwon, Korea’s biggest K-Pop competition, is back, featuring talented K-Pop cover groups in the country. It focuses on dance performances, allowing Filipino dancers to showcase their craft.

Interested participants may send their application and dance demos until July 11, 11:59 p.m. (Full guidelines and details, tinyurl.com/2021PinoyKPop.) The selected performers will represent the country in the 2021 K-Pop World Festival and win cash prizes—first place P30,000, second place P20,000, third place P15,000. The fourth, fifth and sixth placers will take home special KCC gift bags.

The 2021 Pinoy K-Pop Star Transcend will be live-streamed July 30 on KCC’s YouTube Channel.

KCC marks its 10th year in the Philippines on July 19. This month’s K-Stans: Along With K-Culture has stories, tips, lessons, and experiences of K-Pop fans, including the P-Pop group SB19.

The Traditional Thursday and Korean Word of the Day continue to educate the netizens about traditional and popular Korean music. Think pansori, Arirang, BTS and EXO!
